Here at Capriosca Swimwear, we are regularly educated by our customers about their swimsuit needs. We have had many requests over the years for mastectomy, maternity, and accessible swimwear for post-surgery. Limited mobility and changes to the body can greatly impact the choice and availability of stylish and supportive swimwear.
The Capriosca Swimwear mission is to create swimwear that fits and supports women of all shapes, sizes, and needs. Our latest customer request was for ostomy swimwear. While we are certain our customers have bought our swimwear for this purpose before, we have only recently received feedback about how it has worked.
We received an informative email from a customer detailing her experience wearing our swimwear with her stoma bag. The email was very complimentary as well as educational, and it forced us to dive a little deeper into the world of ostomies.

Q: What is an ostomy?
A: An ostomy (or stoma) is an artificial opening in an organ of the body, created during an operation such as a colostomy, ileostomy, or gastrostomy. It helps to reroute waste and the way it exits the body.
Q: What is a stoma bag?
A: A stoma bag is a small, disposable bag worn outside the body to collect waste. It is adhered to the skin over the stoma (or ostomy).
Q: What is an ostomate?
A: The term “ostomate” is used to describe an individual who has undergone an ostomy.

The lovely email we received from our customer, Lynda:

Lynda had purchased the Navy and White Dots Vintage Skirted One Piece. This swimsuit is fully lined with ruching across the front of the body. The fabric is navy with a small white polka dot print. The combination of these features help to hold the stoma bag in place and also minimise its appearance.
