The Cosmopolitan is a strong and fragrant drink, warm, with a good balance between sweetness and acidity that can fool you, so its high alcohol content shouldn’t be taken lightly. Suitable for any occasion, but especially as an aperitif.
4 cl of vodka citron
1.5 of triple sec
1.5 cl fresh lemon juice
3 cl of cranberry juice (cranberry)
Squeeze the lemon and strain the juice. Pour all ingredients in a shaker, shake for 15 seconds, remove the ice from the glass and pour the Cosmo in a martini glass, straining.
Garnish with a slice of lime. That’s all- simple, but addictive!
A little tip when you’re making Rossini: prepare it in advance and in capacious carafes, you’ll spare a lot of time the cocktails will be more balanced, especially if cooled with a single, large piece of ice.
10 cl of sparkling wine or champagne
5 cl of strawberry puree
In order to make a good drink without adding any sugar syrup, strawberries must be fresh, ripe and sweet, ie: perfect. Get 4 or 5 strawberries and crush them in a sieve, muddling with a spoon.
Avoid the blender at all costs, which would kill the delicate flavour of strawberries: the blender is ok for frozen drinks like Margarita or Daiquiri, but not for sparkling cocktails that rely on intact and intense aromas and have only 2 ingredients. There is not even a drop of triple sec here…
The strawberry puree can be frozen in an ice cube tray used for emergencies or to add a touch of flavour to your ice cream.
Cool a glass or flute with ice, then toss away the ice, pour the filtered puree, add champagne or a good Spumante Metodo Classico, stir gently and garnish with a strawberry.
Enjoy your Rossini drink!
The Screwdriver is one of the simplest cocktails in the entire history of the mixed drinks: squeeze an orange and fortify it with a little bit of vodka and you’re done. For a good, not too strong not too light cocktail they should be in a 1 (vodka) to 2(orange juice) ratio, so let’s say that adding 10 cl of orange juice to 5 cl of vodka it’s a nice way to make peace with the world. Keep this in mind during summer, when you’ll prepare bathtubs of Screwdriver to quench your thirst and make a full immersion of vitamin C.
One legend says that an American worker has given this name to a cocktail before known as vodka orange, because for stirring it he found nothing but a simple screwdriver.
5 cl of vodka
10 cl of orange juice
Squeeze the oranges and strain the juice. Pour vodka and the juice in a highball glass filled with ice, mix and decorate with a slice of orange. Voila!
